A Hit Parade
Submitted By Jamie Bond on Thursday, July 18, 2013
Last night, the Rivercats held a little parade for the fans and it was the best parade I have seen in  a long time.

But it was not your normal type of parade.........it was a Fantastic Hit Parade!!!  It started in the first inning and it was hit after hit after hit.  You would think in this scorchering heat that hits would be tough to get, but these little hooligans mustered up the strength to get er done.

One thing to note in all of this is that every single player got a hit........even the young ones.........and some got 2.....or even 3.  We actually hit the 10 batters in an inning maximum not once......but twice.  Can you believe it???  I can.  These kids have worked hard all year at practice and in warm up and it's finally starting to pay off.  And if you don't believe me, you should see their defence.  Play after play was made last night.  The fans were oooing and awing and cheering all night.  Now, they weren't connecting on all the plays, but at this age, making the attempts is half the battle.  And because of all of their efforts, they came away with a 12-5 win.  Beauty.

Of special note, the Hustle and Heart Award went to Josh Hurd.  Josh played catcher and hit a nice double in the first inning. He shows up early to every game and practice and has come a very long way in the team player category.  CONGRATS SLUGGER JOSH!!

I should also mention that we played on Tuesday night against the mighty DKMB #1 squad.  They are a tough team and our defense played great and held them to only a few runs.  It was the first time in my 15 years of coaching that I couldn't decide on a single player for the Hustle & Heart Award, so I picked 2:
- Tessa Walden - Tessa tracked down several balls in the outfield and got them in quick to stop the runners from advancing.
- Evelyn Jones - Evelyn got two terrific hits and had a couple of nice throws from the outfield.
CONGRATS YOU TWO HOOLIGANS!  YOU DESERVED IT!!!!!

No, this was not another rendition of Anne of Green Gables, but a display of pure athletic talent by our Rivercats #2 squad.  And it wasn't just one play.
