Coach Ross Has His Day
Submitted By Jamie Bond on Friday, July 5, 2013
Last evening the Rivercats #2 held a practice in Mt. Brydges on a beautiful night.  Ten Rivercats showed up and were eager to learn.  And unbeknownst to us, Coach Ross would have the night of his life.

We started practice off with our traditional pop fly barrage, and then our intense warm-up.  Coach Jamie then taught the little Rivercats how to do the crow-hop to get those extra feet out of their throws.  This proved very challenging, but having 4 coaches on the field really helped and I think they all had it by the end.

We then had a throwing relay race in which the kids split up into teams and had to work together to get the ball from the outfield all the way back to the infield.  Then we had another contest where the hooligans were split up into two teams and had to hustle to be the first team to get the ball to first base.  These two drills were fun enough, but the best was yet to come.

The two teams created for the infield drill were then kept together for a fun game of baseball.  Coach Ross and Coach John were added as players to Team A, and Coach Jamie and Coach Tim were added to Team B.

Coach Ross was the star as Team A came to bat first and solved Team B's pitcher, Coach Jamie, quickly and often.  Hit after hit pushed Team A's batters around and around.  When Team B finally got the 3rd out, Coach Ross stepped on the rubber and impressed all by his awesome fastball and nimble feet scooping up balls left and right.  But the highlight of his night was when he fired a fastball to Coach Jamie who popped it way up in the infield right to Coach Ross who promptly buried it into his glove for the out and sealed the win.

Congrats to Team A for winning the baseball challenge last night: Josh, Grant, Cam D, Abbey, Andrew, Coach John and Coach Ross.  Also, congrats to Coach Ross for winning the Hustle & Heart award for all of his heroic efforts.  Nice Job Coach Ross!!!!!
