And So The Season Begins
The RiverCats #2 squad strolled into Forest Tuesday evening under threatening skys.  But the weather held off and the mighty Rookies put on a show.

The game was kicked off at 6:30pm by a loud cheer and a solid single by first year speedster Cameron Deeks.  The inning also featured some hits by veterans Ethan Bond and Cameron Jones, and first year darlings Lily Dearing and Abbey Bond.  But the Forest defence was able to muster up some outs on the base paths and kept us off the score board.  The bottom of the inning put a scare into us as they racked up two quick runs to jump out in front.

The second inning was our inning.  Two more first year darlings, Tessa Walden and Evelyn Jones racked up hits and eventually scored on hits by Blake Scatchered, Josh Hurd, Jack Harding and Jordan Mckellar.  When the dust settled, we had jumped out to a 3 -2 lead.  In the bottom of the inning Forest had little luck at the plate weren't able to get any runs across.

The third inning featured some more hits by Ethan and Cameron J, and Andrew Butlers first hit of the year, but we couldn't scratch any more runs across.  But we didn't need any as Forest couldn't take advantage and blanked out the inning again.

And that was the game.  Some slow play and some first game organizational issues held us to only 3 innings, but it was a first great game, and I was very proud of all of the kids.  Their hard work at practice is really paying off.  Can't wait for Thursday.

Our HUSTLE & HEART award goes to the player who hustles on every play, shows great sportsmanship, and displays great team spirit.  Our first award this year goes to Andrew Butler who worked hard as our pitcher and led the team in our cheers.  CONGRATS Andrew!!!!!
