Welcome Note
There have been some player changes / shifting of the teams.  Some of you have already received my first message but I am sending it out again (below) for those who did not respond or are new to the team.

Our first practice is scheduled for Monday May 16, 6:00pm at Kilworth Park.  I do not have our full schedule yet but should have it by Tuesday.  As soon as I have the schedule I will send you a copy via email and post it to our team page on the dkmb.ca website.

I have one parent so far (thank you Brent Austin) who is going to be assisting with coaching.  I am looking for 2 or 3 more if possible - the commitment does not have to be for every game, so long as we can have 4 (including myself) for games and practices that would be great.

Again, if you have not already contacted me, please send me a reply to ensure that I have the correct email/contact information.

Original note from May 4:

My name is Ernie Latif.  I am the head coach for our River Cat’s Rookie Local League team #4.

My focus for this year will be on players’ skills development along with gaining a good understanding of playing baseball on a team.

Here is some general information:
-        Practice nights are Monday 6:00 pm @ Kilworth Park
-        Home game nights are Thursday 6:00 pm @ Komoka Park (Small Field)

This means that at least half of our scheduled games (all home games) will be Thursday night as indicated above at Komoka Park.  There will be weeks where we will have 2 games in which case I will likely cancel the Monday practice.

Assistant Coaching:
I will be asking for parents to help coach in both games and practice.  See below for an outline of coaching duties.  If you are interested in helping to coach on a regular basis, please let me know.  Otherwise, I will be requesting volunteers at each game/practice.

Games: Ideally, I would like to have 3 parents assist in coaching each game night.
When we are at bat 4 coaches are used:
1)     bench coach to keep the batting order going
2)     pitching coach (generally me) feeding the pitching machine
3)     first base running coach
4)     third base running coach

When we are in the field 2 coaches are needed.

Practice: I would like to have 4-5 parents assist in coaching at practice.  We will have 3 to 4 stations working on various drills.  Players will spend about 10 minutes at a station then move to the next.  We will generally run 40 minutes of drills followed by a 30-minute mini game.

Equipment: I have 8 bats of various sizes/weights that should accommodate all of our players.  You can also bring your own bat.  I have 3 helmets, however, the league recommends that players have their own helmet.  The team uniform is required for all of our games and I encourage our players to also wear the uniforms for practice.  Baseball shoes (plastic cleat) are optional.

Coach Ernie.
