Bantam Boys Win 2014 LDBA City Championship!
Congratulations to the 2014 Bantam Boys HL team for coming from fourth place in the season's standings to win the LDBA West and City Championships.
After battling to get to the Championship game to face season champs from Forest, Josh Moorhouse and Dan McGonigle teamed up for a pitching clinic. What a performance to hold the power-hitting Forest Dragons to 7 runs. In the bottom of the 7th, DKMB faced a 7-5 deficit but were at the top of the batting order. After Dan McGonigle and Nick Stubb safely crossed the plate to tie the game, Russell Kelly manufactured the winning run by driving a double, stealing third and then home in a very exciting finish.
Then it was on to meet the EBBA Cardinals winners of the LDBA East division in a one game winner take all City Championship at Dan Pulham field. In the bottom of the 4th, #42 Jett Woods scored the go ahead run to take a 2-1 lead. Josh Moorhouse continued to throw strike after strike and completed a 6 2/3 innings gem. #7 Dan McGonigle got the nod to close out the game but first had to face the #4 clean-up hitter who managed a hit and two stolen bases advancing to 3rd. In an attempt to steal home and a wild run-down sequence, catcher #4 Russell Kelly teamed up with 3rd baseman #14 Nick Stubb to make the final out clinching a spectacular Championship run by the 2014 Boys Bantam HL team.
Congratulations to all and a special thanks to coaches from L to R:
Don Kerr, Brad McGonigle, Jake Friesen and Jeff Beacham.
