Hello Rivercats,
Please be aware that a heat warning is in effect for London-Middlesex and Elgin Counties beginning today, and lasting for most of the week. Please visit the Middlesex-London Heath Unit (MLHU)
https://www.healthunit.com/news/first-extended-heat-warning-of-the-season-issued for more details.
It is important to take steps to stay cool and to keep hydrated during this heatwave.
We will proceed with games and practices this week, unless it is mandated by a regulatory authority to cancel outdoor play. We will continue to monitor the heat warnings and provide further guidance as needed.
We encourage all coaches and parents to take extra steps to protect players by making sure they stay well hydrated and take frequent breaks.
It is important that everyone know the signs and symptoms of heat-related illnesses and make the best decision for their individual situation/family.
Please review the following information provided by Baseball Ontario regarding HEAT-RELATED ILLNESSES GUIDELINES:
The human body normally cools itself by sweating, but in extreme heat and humidity that's not enough. Perspiration doesn't evaporate easily on hot, humid days, and that means the body must work harder to maintain a normal temperature.
