Just A Bit Short
The Mighty Rivercats #2 squad played their first game on the new Komoka diamond tonight against Rookie #3 and I thought we were going to come all the way back.

It wasn't for a lack of trying and some fantastic, terrific hits and plays, but we just couldn't quite seal the deal.

In the first inning the spunky #3 squad rolled off 5 runs due to some very well placed hits.  Then in the bottom half, Jordan led off with a liner to first, but it was caught by a sensational play by their first baseman.  We were then held off the board the rest of the inning.

In the second inning, we finally woke up a bit.  We held them off the board in their half of the inning and Jordan made a great play at second to end it.  In our half the bats woke up.  Ethan led off with a double, which was followed up by a great hit by Andrew Butler to move Ethan to third.  Abbey then came up with a wicked swing and grounded out to first, but got an RBI as EThan came accross to get our first run of the game.  Cam J then came up and drove Andrew home on a double of his own.  That was all we got this inning but that was some great clutch hitting........but there was more to come later.

In the third inning, those pesky Hitters from Rivercats #3 scratched 3 more runs accross to really blow this game wide open.  Amongst all their hits though, we had some great plays in the field by Josh and Grant.  They made some great catches and made some awesome throws to make it close at first base.  In the bottom half of the inning, we shook, we rattled, and we rolled.  Blake, Evelyn, Josh, Jack, and Raileh were all able to get tremendous hits and then hustle their butts home for some much needed runs.  But they couldn't do this without a little bit of help from hits off of the bats of Jordan, Grant and Ethan.  That brought the score to 8-7.  Holy schmoly what a nail biter.

In the fourth, we were able to keep them off of the board with some more great plays, which is just what we needed.  But in the bottom of the fourth, we couldn't capitalize on hits by Andrew and Cam J due to some awesome playmaking by the #3 squad.

All in all though, I was so proud of the kids.  They just look like they are having so much fun, and they might be picking up a skill or two along the way.

Some honoralbe mentions go to:
- Cam D who hit some fantastic foul balls tonight and filled in for an injured Jack Harding behind the plate and did an awesome job.
- Lily wore the pitcher down with her tenacity and I think she hit about a thousand foul balls and I know her no fear and fun attitude up there is going to pay off soon.
- Tessa was hustling hard down the line on a couple of close foul balls and I just know next game she is going to keep one between the lines and beat it out at first.

And LAST, but not LEAST, our Hustle and Heart Award goes to our awesome terrific back catcher tonight JACK HARDING.  He must have caught 30 or 40 balls back there and threw in a single for good measure.  NICE JOB JACKER!!!!

See ya Thursday folks.
