Mite Girls Bring Home the Championship at Mid-Season CSL Tournament
The weekend of June 23-24 was a memorable one for the Mite Girls.  The Rivercats went undefeated in the mid-season tournament to bring home the championship!  The Cats worked hard agains three strong teams from South, Byron and Southwest.   The weekend was filled with lots of hits, great base running and pitching that was out of this world!
The Mite Girls went home with the coveted championship t-shirts after stringing together their first 3 game winning streak of the year.

The first game Saturday morning was the first meeting of the season of the Rivercats vs. South.  South showed up with some great pitching and the Cats responded with quick bats and some pretty impressive pitching of their own.  The final score as 10-7 for the DKMB crew.

The Rivercats avoided the heat of the day and came back for 5:00 to meet the green team from Byron on their home diamond.  The Rivercats had great pitching from Sydney, Emily and Julia who combined for 11 Ks this afternoon!  Mite girls played some impressive D but really showed their stuff at the plate.  It was great to see 9 of 11 players cross the plate in the victory!  Absolutely everyone was a base runner in this game!

The tension was high on Sunday morning...the Rivercats knew if they could sit down Southwest in the first game, the championship would be theirs!  Southwest knew that if they could hold off the cats in game 1, they'd have a second try at it in a possible championship doubleheader.  The Cats were on the prowl this day and saw strong pitching from Cassie, Emily and Sydney.  The girls at the plate swung the bat resulting in great hits.  Here's how the girls showed:

Alyssa reached base twice and scored 2 runs
Julia was hot hot hot with 2 singles and a bases loaded triple knocking in 3 RBIs
Sydney started the game on the mound and had 3 Ks, reached base every at bat and scored 2
Emily saw 3 batters in the 2nd and shut them all down, she was on base twice and scored one
Cassie beat her own heat and picked up her team on Sunday by pitching a strong 3rd with one K and scored one
Olivia reached base 3 times, scored one and decided she might like being a catcher!
Avery wouldn't have missed Sunday for anything and trotted her way on the bases 2X
Jacky reached base twice and scored one
Leah played strong D behind the plate and scored one off a walk in the 2nd
Coral came through with a timely bases loaded double in the 3rd and racked up 3 RBIs
Regan followed Coral with a double of her own earning and RBI as well
Kate wore down the Southwest pitchers with 2 plate appearances and showed some great D tracking down a long ball in right
Ashley was sidelined on Sunday with an injury but came out to support her team.  She was hot at the plate on Saturday reaching base 3 times and scoring once...we missed that speed on the bases on Sunday.

GREAT WEEKEND RIVERCATS!
